Anom Sigit SURYAWAN

Anom Sigit SURYAWAN is a PhD student of the International Graduate Programme of East Asia Sustainable Economic Development Studies, Graduate School of Economics, Kyoto University. He obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree in 2007 from University in Indonesia and his MSc in Economics from Kyoto University in September 2016. A lawyer by training (a licensed Advocate and member of the Indonesian Advocates Association), Anom has keen research interest in food certification and labelling, food governance, and politics of agricultural biotechnology and GMOs. Currently he is doing research on the politics of halal food certification and labelling in Indonesia, focusing on the organisational and discursive processes through which the state intervenes in the halal certification systems as well as the power relations underpinning the formulation, implementation and outcomes of the new state-led halal certification systems.
